Ceiling Fan automation with ZEN52, ZEN32 in IQ 4 (originally Home Assistant)

On our subreddit - r/savethepanel - I wrote an article about how I automated my ceiling fan using a Zooz ZEN52 dual relay. Be sure to read that post at the link below:

I wanted to post the various parameters I used on the Zooz Devices as well as the associations in Home Assistant to make this work without any automations that rely on Home Assistant itself. They are included below.

I also included why this could not be done in my Qolsys IQ 4 at the very bottom of this post. Edit: it is now back in the IQ 4 with v4.6.1! See bottom of post.

Associations (Groups)

Why not in my IQ 4?

I couldn’t build the Z-wave association from the ZEN32 to the ZEN52’s specific relay endpoints on the IQ 4, since the IQ 4 only displayed the ZEN52 as a single destination entity in the association screen. I plan on opening a ticket with Surety about this, once I get my other ZEN52 into the lab to mock this up for additional testing. (Right now my one and only 52 is in production so I don’t want to pull it back out.)
I’ll update this post with screenshots once I have them available.

(Update) I did move this back into my IQ 4 once v4.6.1 of the software came out. See my replies below. Sorry Home Assistant. I love ya but I like having most things in one pane of glass with ADC for now. Makes the other humans in my house happy.

The Parameters and Associations are identical in the IQ 4 from what I posted above for Home Assistant, fyi.

Update: With the 4.6.1 software the ZEN52 relay endpoints are visible in the association screen on the IQ4! I plan to re-connect this fan to the IQ4 once I upgrade my production panel! Very nice!

Another UPDATE: I upgraded my IQ 4 to v4.6.1, and have moved this back into the IQ4 with the rest of my home automation. I even added a second fan with this same configuration. It works great!

I think I was wrong!

I believe the issue with the ZEN52 endpoints not appearing in the IQ 4 association screen was NOT due to the IQ software version, but rather to HOW the ZEN52 was added to the IQ Panel.

It appears that if you add the ZEN52 via the IQ Installer app, the z-wave endpoints do not appear properly on the panel.

BUT if you join the ZEN52 via the IQ Panel’s touchscreen directly, the endpoints build properly! Very bizarre.

Even in v4.6.1, if I join a ZEN52 via the IQ installer app, there are missing Z-Wave endpoints for each relay in the association screen.

Moral of the story - Join the ZEN52 via the IQ Panel’s touchscreen interface directly for best results.
