Hey everyone! We started a TikTok account last week: https://www.tiktok.com/@savethepanel
This was my sister’s idea. I was skeptical. But I think she was right.
I do, however, have a lot to learn about TikTok.
The format will be short videos focused on one specific thing. Silencing the disarm chime on an IQ4, getting a DSC keypad enrolled on a Qolsys panel, adding Z Wave LR devices, etc. Some of it will be tips and tricks for people who are already deep into this stuff.
But the part I’ve gotten more interested in is showing the average homeowner things they didn’t know were possible, or didn’t know their own system could already do.
Most people with an IQ panel on the wall are probably using a fraction of what it can do, simply because nobody ever told them the rest existed. Dark mode is a perfect example. Somebody asked how to get it, I made a thirty second reply, and that’s a setting that’s been sitting in their panel the whole time.
Nothing there replaces what we do here or on YouTube. The forum is still where the long answers, deep dives, and actual troubleshooting live.
If you’re on TikTok, a follow helps more than you’d think this early. If you’re not, no loss. Everything worth keeping ends up on the forum anyway.
And if there’s a specific thing you’ve wanted a short walkthrough on, reply here. The best candidates are exactly those questions that are easy to answer once you know the trick, and surprisingly hard to find the answer to otherwise.
