Zooz ZEN78 High Power Relay

Zooz ZEN78 High Power Relay

I just reviewed this new high power relay (video link below) in four ecosystems, including IQ 4 / ADC, Hubitat, Home Assistant, and Zooz Z-Box. There were some interesting finds I didn’t expect in a heavy duty switch.

See more detail on Zooz’s site TheSmartestHouse.com

Unexpected finds:

  • Internal Temp Sensor
  • Freeze sensor/threshold
  • Heat sensor/threshold
  • Power Monitoring
  • External switch accepts multi-tap and scene control

How it fared in each ecosystem

Be sure to watch the video for details, however outside of IQ/ADC, each of the other hubs expressed the features of the ZEN78 in its own way however all seemed fully functional.

Specific to Alarm.com / IQ 4

Found the following to be functional:

  • Full on/off control in IQ and ADC cloud
  • Direct Associations working, and it has endpoints for:
    • Overheat triggered set on
    • Overheat triggered set off
    • Overheat release set on
    • Overheat release set off
    • Under heat triggered set on
    • Under heat triggered set off
    • Under heat release set on
    • Under heat release set off
    • External switch action
  • Input switch appears as a scene capable remote in ADC
  • Addressable parameters
  • Power Monitoring
  • !! No errors on IQ’s System Check

It does have an internal temp sensor, which does not appear anywhere in IQ or ADC, however via parameters and the direct association values above, you could use it in IQ to trigger something like a relay or siren, etc when a heat or freeze threshold was violated. Very cool.
